School of Forestry & Environment

About us
The School of Forestry and Environment was established with multidisciplinary approach comprising of biological principles, quantitative approaches through technologies and practices which are developed in order to manage and conserve our forest and natural resources. The primary focus of the School of Forestry & Environment is on Teaching, Research and Extension reflecting the social, economical and ethical values of community in this era. The objective of starting these coursed in university system was to bring about qualitative improvements in Forestry education, research and training. It aims at incorporating issues necessitating the change, growing complexities in these educations, rationale behind the planned transformation, critical components of the curriculum revision, salient aspects of the revitalization and the modified educational strategies. Conceptually, we focus on developing the man power of academic caliber and attributes in the field of forestry, environmental, agro meteorology and wildlife sciences. The contribution of forestry education to the general well being of people is increasing day by day. Therefore appropriate training of forestry graduates is necessary. Today's forestry students not only needs latest scientific knowledge and wider range of technological skills but also more persuasive problem solving approach. In this age of changing climate we are required to think globally for the well-being of our planet, coupled with growing demands on the natural resources utilization. The Faculty of Forestry & Environment at this University is positioning itself as a pioneer position in sustaining, managing and conserving our precious forests, their products and restoring natural resources dynamicity.

Environmentalists, governments, industries, non-governmental organizations and special interested groups often have different views on forest management. Our faculty also provides leadership to contribute independent scientific thought to the ongoing debate on depleting Forest. The mission of the faculty is to develop technically qualified forestry professionals with sufficient skills to manage, conserve and develop diversified forest resources and products leading to environment and livelihood security. It emphasized at meeting the challenges faced by the poorer and other weaker section of the society for raising their socio-economic condition through various activities in the field of Forestry. Inaugurated as a small Department of Agroforestry, the School of Forestry and Environment currently has five departments, each catering to the needs of several post graduate and under graduate students. In recognition of the impact of advanced technologies on society, the School imparts socio-economic awareness and promotes the use of these technologies for complex problems. The educational programs are based on contemporary theory and practice and to provide a conceptual formulation to those aspiring to top-level positions and career opportunities. The mission of the School of Forestry and Environment is to develop professional empowerment in the field of Forestry, Agro forestry, Environmental science and Wildlife science for the corporate sector as well as for other socio-economic institutions which will serve the people and foster for the progress of the nation.

Lab Facilities
The school has excellent laboratory facilities for conducting practical classes and advanced researches for students. School has state-of-the-art forestry laboratory for conducting practical of forest genetics, stump analysis, tree seed technology, wood analysis, forest products, tree physiology and forest entomology etc. School has an environmental science laboratory with all sophisticated equipments for conducting practical and advanced research works.

Research Activities
The major thrust areas in Forestry includes research and development in traditional agroforestry system, standardization of bamboo propagation techniques, wasteland development through agroforestry models, Tree improvement, standardization Jatropha curcas propagation and cultivation, collection of superior germplasm for varietal orchard, medicinal, aromatic plants cultivation and conservation, development nursery techniques for tree species like teak, poplar, arjun, mahua, shisham, eucalyptus, subabul etc. Department of Environmental Science was created with a vision to encourage research on drinking water quality analysis, heavy metal analysis, heavy metal removal through organic materials, heavy metals assessment viz. Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni) in sewage water, effect of sewage discharge on soil quality, and yield parameter of agri.crops, ambient air quality monitoring study and noise level monitoring in urban areas. The major thrust areas in Agrometeorology is to provide real time weather information to the farmers and research scholar, monitoring and predication weather hazards, contingency planning, monitoring on climate change and its effect on agriculture and forestry. Wildlife education and research emphasizes on threats to our wildlife biodiversity due to habitat loss, poaching, poisoning, accidents, diseases and disorders culminating into effective wildlife conservation and management strategies.
