Department of Tissue Engineering
Tissue Engineering is an emerging interdisciplinary field that applies the principles of engineering and life sciences toward the development of biological substitutes that restore, maintain, or improve tissue function or a whole organism. The term regenerative medicine is often used synonymously with tissue engineering, although those involved in regenerative medicine place more emphasis on the use of stem cells to produce tissues. The stem cells are isolated, derived or cultured for purposes such as developing cell or tissue therapies, studying cellular differentiation, research to understand the factors necessary to direct cell specialization, to specific pathways and other development studies. The stem cells are useful for the repair of diseased or damaged tissues or for growing new organs. The Department of Tissue Culture was established in the year 2005 and was renamed as Department of Tissue Engineering in July 2009.
DThe department is providing courses for UG, PG and PhD programs and is facilitating the project work of students. The department is enriched with two air conditioned, well-furnished laboratories viz. Tissue Culture Research Lab & Tissue Culture Technology Lab and one Poly House with herbal garden. The department is having sufficient number of equipments and other requirements for all the students learning tissue culture. The department is going to establish Animal Tissue Culture Laboratory in the near future.
